January 2012 - Enough with the motivational masochism

The return of the holiday period is for many a hard change.  The period of relaxation and "freedom" ends and obligations, schedules and routine return.  But, what's the point of complaining? Are we doing anything to change the situation? Does complaining every day solve our anxiety?  The answer is no, so stop whining and relax.  If we didn't had our jobs, we would not be on vacation in the first place!

A strategy that some people use to overcome "back to the office" syndrome is thinking of new projects and major changes that they want to implement in their day to day job and their lives.  This is good, but make sure you stay away from any "motivational masochism."

Does any of this look familiar to you?

January 1st

Dear Diary, today is THE day.  I fully intend to always be on time, eat healthier and meet all my deadlines.

January 2nd

Dear Diary, my resolution of being on time didn't go as planned (I hate London traffic!), but I only ate half the pack of crisps, so the diet is not going great.

January 15th

Dear Diary, I missed a very important meeting today and I put on a couple of pounds.  I hate this resolution thing!

January 24th

Dear Diary,...I want it to be December already

Enough of this wishy-washy "I'll start tomorrow" thing.  Just commit to something (one thing) and do it.  Prove something to yourself, you will feel much better, much quicker.

P.S. I've just arrived back from 2 weeks in Costa Rica!
